The first lawn mower was invented in 1830 by Edwin Beard Budding. It was a push mower built out of cast iron and was far from efficient, but it got the job done. The steam driven mower came to the market in the 1890’s and was quickly replaced by petrol engines a few years later.

Since the early 1900’s the preferred method for keeping lawns groomed has been the gas powered mower. Well… times are changing! If we want to act “green” and reduce our footprint on the environment then we must change too. Several years ago, Gardenworks Inc. purchased a rechargeable battery powered lawn mower which, because of its green color, our crews affectionately named “The Frog”.

Our Frog has been mowing lawns in the community for over four years now. What began as an experiment in durability, longevity, efficiency, and quality of a battery powered mower has now changed our approach to lawn care. Gardenworks has always prided ourselves in our horticultural approach to garden care and now offer low impact to totally organic services. Keep your eye out next time our crews are in your neighborhood servicing our client’s gardens… you might just see a Frog on their lawn!
